JJM Pest Management operates out of Garbutt and has done for over two decades. Not a franchise, not a national brand with a local licensee, not a call centre that dispatches a subcontractor. The person who answers the phone knows the technician who turns up.
Twenty years in one city means something practical rather than sentimental. We know which suburbs have which construction types. We know that Hyde Park and Railway Estate are timber on stumps with subfloor issues, that Idalia and Burdell are new slabs still under builder's warranty, and that Bushland Beach gets midges from the mangrove flats after sunset while Kirwan doesn't. What we're licensed to do
Every technician holds a current Queensland pest management technician licence. We carry full public liability insurance.
Our fumigation division holds AQIS accreditation for export and import fumigation, which is a genuinely uncommon accreditation in North Queensland and means we can certify treatments for consignments moving through Townsville, Cairns and Gladstone. See AQIS licensed fumigation for the detail.
Termite work is carried out to the Australian Standards: AS 3660.1 for new construction, AS 3660.2 for existing buildings, and AS 4349.3 where timber pest reports are involved.
How we work
A few things we do differently, and you can hold us to all of them.
▪ We inspect before we treat. Treating the wrong species is worse than treating nothing, because it costs you money and buys you false confidence.
▪ We tell you what we used. Every product we apply is recorded, and the safety data sheets for everything we carry are published on this website. If you want to know what went on your skirting boards, you can look it up.
▪ We give you re-entry times in plain language. Not "once dry" without further explanation, but an actual number of hours, adjusted for Townsville humidity.
▪ We quote in writing before we start. No verbal estimates that grow on the invoice.
▪ We tell you when you don't need us. It happens regularly, most often when somebody has found a huntsman or a native cockroach that wandered in from the garden.
Why we take termites seriously
CSIRO research puts termite activity in roughly one in three Australian homes, and the tropical north sits well above the national average. Queensland has the most economically damaging termite species in the country, Coptotermes acinaciformis, and also has Mastotermes darwiniensis, the giant northern termite, which can severely damage a house in around six months.
No Australian home insurance policy covers termite damage. That combination, high risk and zero insurance, is why we push inspections harder than most and why we'd rather you were annoyed by a reminder than surprised by a repair bill.

JJM Pest Management is a locally owned and operated business based in Townsville and we are proud to have served the people and their homes from pests including termite protection for more than 20 years. John has been in the building industry for over 20 years, first starting out as a concreter. He is extremely knowledgeable in the area and is passing that knowledge on to his team. He is an expert in his field of pre and post construction termite management.
JJM Pest Management has purchased Environ Pest Management in June 2023 so our team has grown to 4 on the road technicians, 3 pre-construction technicians, 2 learners and 6 office staff.
