If you're seeing small pale roaches during the day, that's significant. German cockroaches are nocturnal, and daytime activity generally means the harbourage is overcrowded, which means the population is large.
Why the tropics make it worse
Cockroaches need warmth, moisture and food, and Townsville supplies the first two continuously. There's no winter to knock populations back, and the wet season drives outdoor species indoors en masse.
German cockroaches complete a generation in as little as six weeks in warm conditions, and a single egg case holds around 30 to 40 nymphs. That maths is why a small problem becomes a large one over one summer.
Why we bait rather than spray

Worse, spraying scatters an infestation. Cockroaches exposed to a repellent product disperse away from it, which spreads a kitchen problem into the adjoining rooms and into wall cavities.
Gel baiting works differently. Small precise beads are placed directly into harbourage: hinge recesses, kickboard voids, behind and under appliances, along cupboard runners and in cavity edges. Cockroaches feed, return to harbourage and the active ingredient transfers through the population via droppings, vomit and cannibalism. It reaches the ones you'll never see.
We combine it with an insect growth regulator, which stops nymphs reaching breeding age, and with residual treatment to entry points and external harbourage.

Clear access to under sink cupboards and behind appliances where possible. Don't spray anything in the week before, because a repellent residue in the treatment zone will keep cockroaches away from the bait. And don't wipe away the gel afterwards, which happens more often than you'd think.
Timing and follow up
Expect a marked reduction within a week and substantial control within two to three. German cockroach jobs typically need a follow up at two to four weeks to deal with the generation that hatched after the initial treatment.
